Why should my tap handle be made from Resin?

The end of Prohibition in 1933 gave way for bars to legally serve beer. This new market not only excited the public, but also opened up a great advertising opportunity for beer breweries. Brand-specific tap handles- first called ball knobs- allowed breweries the chance to connect with patrons at the point of purchase in the bar environment. However, with the tap handles of big breweries such as Budweiser, Miller, and Coors flooding the scene, it appeared as though it would be a hopeless endeavor for a small brewery to compete.

In the 1990s, the industry saw a boom of craft beverage breweries, or microbreweries. Unable to conventionally compete with large established breweries, microbreweries were forced to get creative. To cost-effectively stand out from the crowd, microbreweries thought it clever to invest a little money in the place it mattered most- the point of sale. Soon, microbreweries realized that a unique looking tap handle with enough character often had what it took to win over patrons who were otherwise swayed by the comfort and familiarity of big name brands.

This is where resin’s significance comes in. Resin tap handles are made via a cast and mold method, the same method used in toy making. The very nature of resin casting allows for unparalleled intricacy of texture and design. This complexity cannot be achieved in conventional materials such as wood, metal, ceramic, and acrylic. Your imagination is virtually limitless. If you have a mascot such as a dog, shark, or mermaid, resin casting allows you to recreate their likeness.
